The Dutch government will invest €102.5 million in the country’s medical technology sector over the next ten years. The joint commitment of the Ministries of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and of Health, Welfare and Sport underlines that medical technology not only contributes to future-proof healthcare, but also creates opportunities for innovation, economic activity and the earning potential of the Dutch economy. Within this national MedTech growth plan, the Twente-based Hospitals of the Future initiative will play a key national role as one of three lines of action.

Heart set on pioneering imaging technology Demcon investment has invested in Kaminari Medical, an Erasmus MC spin-off developing groundbreaking imaging technology for cardiovascular care. By combining advanced photoacoustic imaging and ultrasound, it has come up with a better way to visualize stenosis in coronary arteries. This, in turn, will pave the way for more effective cardiac catheterizations and improve patient care. Demcon life sciences & health already played a part in product development and Demcon investment has now joined a €3.8 million investment round. This round will provide Kaminari Medical with the necessary funding to accelerate product development, expand clinical evidence and prepare for market launch.

Demcon is now supporting a new research project conducted by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and Dutch Cancer Society. The aim of this research is to find new, faster, and more effective methods for detecting cervical cancer.

In 2020, during the hectic early days of the pandemic, intensive care units faced a serious shortage of ventilation equipment for corona patients. At the request of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), Demcon rapidly developed the DemcAir ventilation system.

Since April 2024, Mellon Medical has been a part of the Demcon Group. Mellon Medical is developing an innovative suture tool, the Switch, which enables surgeons to set small-bite sutures more efficiently and quickly than traditional methods.
